With a creaking groan on Saturday morning, the stasis bay door finally opens up, revealing a broad, clean hallway and a lit sign overhead that says WELCOME TO THE CSS EUDORA. Lining the walls, you'll find that there are square lockers to grab your non-sentient belongings that weren't inside of your cold sleep pod (your home item and two changes of clothes from your canon). Along with those, you will find that your belongings have been carefully set inside of a sleek, black courier bag, nestled in among a few welcome gifts waiting for you! Upon opening it up, you'll find the following items to use as you see fit:

🪐 A luxurious eyemask, to block out the haters (and any solar flares)
🪐 A handkerchief, with hand-stitched embroidery.
🪐 A mini radio that plays some old tunes from the 90s and back, it also works as a bluetooth speaker for I.R.I.S.
🪐 A moon lamp, to provide some comforting light
🪐 A simple, but useful, multi-tool, closed when you find it
🪐 A small, refillable medical kit, pre-packed for your potential bumps and bruises (1 minor heal)
🪐 A few packets of freeze-dried fruit, to chase away the immediate munchies
🪐 A mini craft cocktail kit, to drink away your troubles (made into a mocktail kit if you are below 21)

Take your time to familiarize yourself with your new surroundings and freshen up in the communal bathroom that's been made available. You will also find that your living quarters have been neatly arranged along a hallway, just waiting for you to find your name on the door—meet your roommate!

Why, you can even enjoy an informative slideshow presentation that plays in the mess hall on all of the screens! It might not be a very big one, but the world of the CSS Eudora is your oyster for a few hours. There's plenty of time between the auspicious announcement and 1500 hours for you to get to know your fellow junior crewmates.

Welcome to the second part of our introductory weekend, this time featuring some of your new home and a few special surprises. Have a look around your brand new home, and if you have any questions, we will field them in the server.

🚀 Your I.R.I.S. and you! Characters will find that their I.R.I.S. communications device is now up and fully functioning. There are quite a few features for you to explore, including crew member profiles. Why not have a look and see just what kind of information has been compiled about you? And who exactly you're working with. The I.R.I.S. itself also comes witih a handy dandy guide explaining all of its fun features.

🚀 Some things to look out for include two events that will occur today and tomorrow. The first event will begin on (2/24) - 12PM PST | 3PM EST, and the second event will follow on (2/25) - 12PM PST | 3PM EST, so stay tuned for a ping in the server. [she will offer a handshake before she prepares to explain everything about a 401k.]

It's a retirement plan. You can contribute some of your salary to it, and it goes into a tax-deferred account. As long as you leave it in that account, you can access it when you retire and take a very minimal tax hit. They offer matching here, so if you put a little away, they'll put some away, too. Ideally, you want to be at least contributing the maximum amount they'll match, since that's just free money in your account. It might not sound like much, but the earlier you start saving the more time your money will have to grow. Thanks to the power of compound interest, that growth can be quite significant if you start at our age.

[applebough]

Ah. I'm Yuri.

[ Handshake, go! She listens to what Margaret has to say about a 401k and she thinks she gets it. She's aware that insurance plans exist (and that most of them suck anyway), but... a retirement plan? That... ]

Is it really okay for me to have a retirement plan? The job doesn't seem to be dangerous from what I can tell so far, but still...

[ Imagine living long enough to use the retirement plan?? ]

[her handshake is so firm and she meets her with direct eye contact.]

Of course it's okay. You deserve to think about yourself and your future. You should take some time to consider your career goals.

[ Her jaw almost seems to drop at what she says. She feels that she could almost cry, but she tries to hold herself back. However, her words just start tumbling out: ]

Working here sounds really great!

[ This normally softspoken girl is so excited at having this job, never mind the fact that she was possibly kidnapped here. Don't worry about it. ]

[honestly this isn't even close to the first time she's experienced this so understood.]

Well... I can't say I vouch for the leadership...

I'm still not sure how I got here. My head didn't hurt, so it wasn't a concussion that helped them get us here. I'm not sure if I got lucky...

[bossbabygirl]

[she works with a lot of people who have no experience being treated decently by an employer.]

I'm unclear about that too. We should try and get to the bottom of it - if there's a mix up, it'll pay off to show them where they're going wrong. What type of work were you in before?

[applebough]

Oh, um... I was a Fixer.

[ She pauses while considering that there are people from many different places so far, so they might not know what that is. It's strange, having to explain what it is to someone. ]

I was in an office with other Fixers, doing jobs that were assigned to us--whatever they were. We could do all sorts of jobs, but we usually got the things no one else wanted to do.

[bossbabygirl]

That sounds a little like the type of work I do, too. Whatever jobs are available - though we have the ability to turn jobs down, too.

[applebough]

[ Yuri looks surprised, but for probably a different reason. ]

You can afford to turn a job down...?

[bossbabygirl]

At this point, yes. I take it that's not an option?

[applebough]

... Yes.

[ She looks a little tired. ]

We usually get the unwanted jobs and money is important to secure for us where our survival depends on it, so we can't afford to turn them down.

[ That could be like any other world, but she seems to stress on the survival part. Of course people need money to survive, so maybe she means it in a different way. ]

It would be nice to get a promotion...

[bossbabygirl]

I understand. We've been struggling to get by for a while, too. It's nice to have the leeway to be a little particular.

[she does kind of think she means people need money to survive in a very literal way, but she is also from a nightmare capitalism universe.]

[applebough]

[ mood though. Yuri nods in solidarity(?). ]

Ah, but if I work here, I won't have to worry about things like that anymore. There were so many things for free of charge too.
