TO THE JUNIOR CREW OF THE EUDORA: WELCOME. YOUR ORIENTATION WEEKEND BEGINS TODAY YOU'LL MEET WITH SENIOR CREW MEMBERS TO LEARN THE BASICS OF YOUR TOUR. PLEASE ENJOY YOUR COMPLIMENTARY PACKAGE. ATTENTION SENIOR CREW DESIGNATES: PLEASE PREPARE YOURSELVES TO DEPLOY STANDARD NEW EMPLOYEE MEASURES ASAP.

With a creaking groan on Saturday morning, the stasis bay door finally opens up, revealing a broad, clean hallway and a lit sign overhead that says WELCOME TO THE CSS EUDORA. Lining the walls, you'll find that there are square lockers to grab your non-sentient belongings that weren't inside of your cold sleep pod (your home item and two changes of clothes from your canon). Along with those, you will find that your belongings have been carefully set inside of a sleek, black courier bag, nestled in among a few welcome gifts waiting for you! Upon opening it up, you'll find the following items to use as you see fit:

🪐 A luxurious eyemask, to block out the haters (and any solar flares)
🪐 A handkerchief, with hand-stitched embroidery.
🪐 A mini radio that plays some old tunes from the 90s and back, it also works as a bluetooth speaker for I.R.I.S.
🪐 A moon lamp, to provide some comforting light
🪐 A simple, but useful, multi-tool, closed when you find it
🪐 A small, refillable medical kit, pre-packed for your potential bumps and bruises (1 minor heal)
🪐 A few packets of freeze-dried fruit, to chase away the immediate munchies
🪐 A mini craft cocktail kit, to drink away your troubles (made into a mocktail kit if you are below 21)

Take your time to familiarize yourself with your new surroundings and freshen up in the communal bathroom that's been made available. You will also find that your living quarters have been neatly arranged along a hallway, just waiting for you to find your name on the door—meet your roommate!

Why, you can even enjoy an informative slideshow presentation that plays in the mess hall on all of the screens! It might not be a very big one, but the world of the CSS Eudora is your oyster for a few hours. There's plenty of time between the auspicious announcement and 1500 hours for you to get to know your fellow junior crewmates.

Welcome to the second part of our introductory weekend, this time featuring some of your new home and a few special surprises. Have a look around your brand new home, and if you have any questions, we will field them in the server.

🚀 Your I.R.I.S. and you! Characters will find that their I.R.I.S. communications device is now up and fully functioning. There are quite a few features for you to explore, including crew member profiles. Why not have a look and see just what kind of information has been compiled about you? And who exactly you're working with. The I.R.I.S. itself also comes witih a handy dandy guide explaining all of its fun features.

🚀 Some things to look out for include two events that will occur today and tomorrow. Even if there were, I'd figure it out. It's a lot easier to do maintenance on something I built than on something someone else created. But it's one less thing to take care of, at least. [ and he's relieved, considering. ]

Makes sense. [he nods] Have you checked everything else out that's opened up around here? Seen your room?

Not really. [ why? ] I...grabbed my stuff and went to that cafeteria to look at the orientation presentation thing and then came here. [ he had enough time to change, and the bag full of stuff is shoved under a bench nearby. ] It's bigger than I expected, at least.

[ to be fair he really was convinced they were just in like an escape room. ]

...find anything interesting?

Lots! Oh, but there's also something like what you were talking about before—simulations?

[ okay, well that catches his attention immediately thanks. ]

Really? Where did you see that?

There was a chamber for it, beside a chamber that lets you float? I didn't test it extensively, but you could create illusions using this [taps I.R.I.S.] device.

... [ he's pocketing the tool. ]

Where did you find it? [ can they go explore? ]

Want me to show you and the little buddy the way?

[technically he knows roboji's name because it's in shoma's profile but it feels weird to just say it without being formally introduced]

Sure. [ he does not seem to realize charles is waiting for a formal introduction, but the tool's in his pocket and shoma's on his feet. roboji moves, pulling away from where it was parked and begins to follow after shoma. ] One of Roboji's programs includes navigation, so he'll be able to remember for next time, too.

Oh, that's convenient. [as he leads the way...] What else can he do?

Facial recognition of people and motion-sensing, for one. He has a pretty big range of motion and flexibility for a machine, and he can move with about the same speeds and dexterity as a human. He's been programed to recognize emotions, sounds and voices to respond appropriately, too, but some things are still hit and miss. Plus he can lift over double the amount of weight Robota could.

Ohhhh. [looks to roboji. jovially,] Do you think you're stronger than me, little guy?

[ well. roboji sort of looks charles up and down before moving forward and picking him up by the waist? it's only like a few inches off the ground because charles is a little heavier than what it can comfortably carry, but an attempt was made.

shoma does nothing to stop this, like a sane and normal person. ]

Whoa!

[HE WAS NOT EXPECTING THIS... HE OFF THE GROUND NOW]

—All right, that's pretty strong!

[ eheh. ]

Easily over one hundred pounds now. [ a little smug. he loves his robot. i really had to determine this based on ryuki's weight that lowe put him down as in heroes but it's fine. ]

Wouldn't have expected that from those skinny arms! You really did a good job with him, huh?

[is charles still off the ground]

[ he wasn't but he is now. ]

The design's a little deceptive, I guess. [ hehe. ] But I figured if I was making other upgrades anyway I'd make sure he was able to carry at least me.

Smart. Good for if your feet ever get tired, huh?

It's a plus. [ it's not the main reason, but it is a reason. down charles goes and he gets a pat on the head (sort of) from roboji. back onward toward the sim room. ]

It was another challenge to get his bearings balanced right to be able to not only hold that much weight but stay upright on one wheel.

Oh, yeah, I didn't even think about that. That's why you're the engineer and not me—but that's some really impressive work.

You think he'd do well if he had to travel across a tightrope, with that sense of balance?

Thanks. [ this time he will say thank you because it at least sounds like charles is listening to what he's saying and commenting on something specific. ]

...I've never really thought about it, but it'd be worth experimenting if we found a tightrope.

I'll let you know if I ever find one and we think of a good spot to tie one. How sturdy is he, or would we also need to prepare cushions just in case?

He's pretty sturdy. But cushions aren't a bad idea? I'd rather not be proven wrong at the last minute and actually break him. [ not only because he'd be crushed but also that's so much work down the drain. ]

Cushions shouldn't be hard to obtain. If nothing else, we could always grab a heck ton of bedding.

Now that we have access to bedrooms? [ a rueful little look. ] It's a thought. If I can get access to new materials, I could also fortify Roboji's body to be a little stronger, too. Just in case.
